Kaikoura Earthquakes

Wow what a week, Kaikoura has always rocked, but for this week it took it to another level. At 12.03am Monday morning we were all just flung out of bed by a 7.8m earthquake. It sounds like it started inland from Kaikoura and just spread its energy out wards towards the coast. It was nothing like I’ve felt before. NZ has plenty of quakes so as a kiwi you usually get a feel for them, but this was next level. The ocean seabed that stretches along form the Conway past the Clarence was pushed up between 1 to 6 meters. Seabeds that we have dived off for generations are literally out of the water even on the high tide. The surf breaks have changed, for the better? only time will tell. The petrol situation isn’t great at the moment, so driving up and down the coast isn’t an option. So very keen to go and explore, but that can wait, people are still hurting here, businesses will hurt for longer. Once things start coming right, the best thing anybody could do would be come and support the local businesses.
